Slay the Spire 2 achieves impressive sales in its first week, along with an upcoming board game expansion featuring bosses as playable characters
The highly anticipated Slay the Spire 2 has quickly become a top seller on Steam, with impressive sales figures now confirmed. Developer Mega Crit revealed that the game has already surpassed an incredible milestone of 3 million copies sold.
The announcement was made on Friday, March 13, just a week after Slay the Spire 2 debuted on March 5. This rapid success indicates strong early adoption by players.
“In just one week since our launch, we’ve hit 3 million units sold, alongside over 25 million runs attempted!” shared Demi, the community manager at Mega Crit. “It’s worth noting that this number could be even higher since we began tracking some of this data shortly after the launch. The excitement from our fans is truly motivating, and it’s just the beginning of our journey!”
Mega Crit also mentioned that they are hard at work on various enhancements, including alternate versions of Acts 2 and 3, in addition to new cards and events. Immediate plans involve adding support for Steam Workshop (to enable mods), improving multiplayer features, integrating with Twitch, enhancing accessibility options for phobias, revamping the badge and scoring system, and launching a friends-only leaderboard. A new beta version has been made available on Steam for players wanting to take part in these tests.
“While we won’t promise a strict update schedule, we aim to release new content and balance updates to the main game whenever they are ready. Meanwhile, the beta will receive updates more regularly,” emphasized Demi.

Additionally, Mega Crit announced plans for a Kickstarter campaign launching soon for the Slay the Spire board game expansion titled Downfall. Players will reportedly have the chance to take on the roles of some notorious bosses from the game, as showcased in the campaign artwork. While I’ve yet to try the board game, I’ve heard positive feedback about it, particularly its co-op gameplay that has influenced features in Slay the Spire 2.
The developer also revealed that there will be a vinyl release of the original soundtrack from Slay the Spire 1, along with new plushie offerings based on Slay the Spire 2. Additionally, Fangamer is set to launch a collection of merchandise inspired by the new title.
