Keiichi Toyama, creator of Silent Hill and Gravity Rush, is looking for talent for a “new large-scale project

Keiichi Toyama, the visionary behind Silent Hill, Siren, and Gravity Rush, is on the lookout for talent to work on a “new large-scale project.”

Following a brief update last summer where Toyama clarified that Bokeh Game Studios is not developing Slitterhead 2, there has been little news until a recent job listing appeared on a Japanese recruitment platform.

Expressing the studio’s intent to “be original,” Toyama emphasized that his team doesn’t focus on creating “standard content” nor aim to be unconventional just for the sake of it. Instead, they are dedicated to relentlessly pursuing the questions: “Why are we creating this?” and seeking unique expressions that only they can achieve.

“The creations we pursue are not ones that anyone else would come up with. Our goal is not to be quirky but to persistently explore our creative motivations and foster originality,” the studio founder noted, as interpreted by machine translation.

“We want to collaborate with individuals who share this mindset and are willing to produce compelling work despite any uncertainties or doubts that may arise during the creative journey.”

Toyama also stated that the studio is currently developing a new project. “This endeavor presents challenges, as we face numerous trials and errors from the outset,” he mentioned.

“However, this means you’ll be intimately involved in shaping the project. Your decisions and efforts will significantly influence the game’s development. Participating at this stage will offer an invaluable experience.”

Founded in 2020, Bokeh’s first major release, Slitterhead, debuted in 2024.

In my review of Slitterhead back in 2024, I expressed my fondness for the game despite recognizing its flaws, awarding it a score of 4 out of 5 stars.

“Much like that classmate you were indifferent towards in school and feel even less fondly for as an adult, Slitterhead has a gritty and uncomfortable charm. Your partner might wonder why you don’t just sever ties if it bothers you so much, but the reality is that this rawness resonates with something within you. It’s a reflection of the creators at Bokeh Game Studios that unearthed this aspect in me.
