According to insiders, Amazon MGM studio has approved Peter Oko as a writer, executive producer and showrunner of the upcoming RoboCop series. The series will also be directed by James Wan. He was involved in the creation of such franchises as Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious, etc.

What is known about the plot of the series

The latest leaks say that the upcoming series will tell the story of a tech conglomerate’s cooperation with a police department to prevent the growth of crime. As a result, they will introduce a policeman who is half human and half robot.

In general, the plot will not be too different from the original 1987 film by Paul Verhoeven. Back then, Peter Weller played the main role of the robot policeman.

Although the film received mixed reviews, it was eventually overrated. Subsequently, it took its place in the history of science fiction cinema of the 80s. The film also became financially successful, earning $53.4 million worldwide. Today, the RoboCop franchise includes two sequels, a 2014 remake, a television show, and video games.

Amazon Studios plans

The possibility of Amazon creating a RoboCop TV series became known last year. In general, after the acquisition of MGM Studios in 2022, the company considered various remake options. The list of potential projects also included Legally Blonde, Stargate, Fame, Barbershop, The Magnificent Seven, Pink Panther, and The Thomas Crown Affair.

Initially, it was reported that RoboCop could become the basis for a film adaptation or spin-off, but later the choice fell on a television series.
