Ex-Far Cry boss Dan Hay is working on a new StarCraft shooter
Dan Hay, the former frontman of Ubisoft’s Far Cry series, has headed the development team of Blizzard’s new StarCraft shooter. This information reported by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreyer, who spoke about it during today’s podcast.
StarCraft shooter
Hay joined Blizzard in 2022 and is working on the company’s third attempt to create a StarCraft shooter. Previous attempts, StarCraft Ghost and Project Ares, were cancelled. Not much is known about the new project, as Schreyer did not announce it as a sensation, but rather to emphasise that Blizzard is returning to the idea. This is the first information about what Hay has been working on since the cancellation of Blizzard Odyssey, the survival project he was overseeing.

Cancelled and active Blizzard projects
The cancelled Odyssey game from Blizzard was their first new intellectual property after Overwatch. It reportedly had gameplay elements similar to Rust and Minecraft. The cancellation took place in January this year, coinciding with the selection of 1,900 Microsoft employees for its video game development teams. Ghost, a Starcraft spin-off, also cancelled in 2006 due to the success of World of Warcraft.
This week, Microsoft confirmed the release of StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection on Xbox and PC Game Pass.
