EA Mobile has announced that it is discontinuing the popular mobile game The Simpsons: Tapped Out after 12 years. The free-to-play city-building game, launched in 2012 for iOS and Android, allowed players to rebuild Springfield after the nuclear disaster caused by Homer Simpson.

Main elements of the game

The Simpsons: Tapped Out allows players to restore buildings, roads and other elements of the city by completing various tasks. Each participant of the gameplay can build and customise his or her own city of Springfield. They can also add key characters from the animated series, such as Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, etc.

Players can unlock characters, each of which has unique tasks and animations. The characters perform various tasks that bring currency and resources. The game regularly received thematic updates related to various holidays (Halloween, Christmas), as well as added new characters and buildings.

The end of an era

Despite its huge success, which brought in more than $130 million in revenue by 2014, EA Mobile decided to remove the game from app stores in October this year. The news announced today on the official The Simpsons: Tapped Out official Facebook page. The developers also summarised that they have released 308 updates, 831 characters and 1463 quests since the game’s launch.

It is reported that The Simpsons: Tapped Out will be removed from all app stores on 31 October this year. However, players will be able to enjoy it a little longer. The game will be permanently disabled on 24 January next year.
