The documentary War Game: The Making of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be released on 3 October on the official Xbox YouTube channel. The film tells the story of developers from GSC Game World who worked in difficult conditions in Ukraine during the war.

Due to the Russian invasion, the studio and the team moved to Prague to complete the development of the game. The documentary aims to shed light on the challenges the team faced while developing the game in a war zone.

What to expect from War Game: The Making of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

The film’s director Andrew Stephen focused on the personal stories of GSC Game World Creative Director Maria Grigorovich and her team who found themselves in a war zone. At first, Grigorovich was hesitant to accept the offer to share her personal experience, as neither she nor her team were used to being in the public eye. However, they saw it as an opportunity to shed light on the difficulties of life during the war.

Xbox was well aware of the difficult circumstances GSC faced when the war broke out. The company understood that the situation of the development team was dire, and it affected them both professionally and personally. They faced challenges on a completely different scale than ordinary game developers. As a result, at the end of 2022, the idea to create a documentary about the experience of developing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl in difficult conditions arose.
