Call of Duty: Warzone Sets Its Sights on Battle Royale, Resurgence, and “the Game’s Future” for the Coming Year
Raven Software has outlined its plans for the upcoming year regarding Call of Duty: Warzone, emphasizing three key areas of focus: “Battle Royale, Resurgence, and the future of the game.”
In a recent announcement, the developer expressed their excitement about upcoming content and provided a preview of the updates, noting that “Battle Royale serves as the foundation for every new mode, feature, and memorable experience” in the game.
The team highlighted their commitment to the Battle Royale mode, stating its importance in their overall approach. They are set to enhance the mode by introducing support for multiple large maps through map rotation. Although the feature won’t be available at the launch of the next installment, it is scheduled for early next year.
Previously, Raven Software mentioned that they would be cautious about making changes to maintain the core experience of Warzone, especially after bringing back Verdansk last spring. However, they have now decided to increase the frequency of updates and improve the introduction of new features.
The team aims to strike a balance between keeping the game dynamic while also focusing on seasonal content and quality-of-life enhancements, responding to player feedback regarding the Resurgence experience and Rebirth Island, which they agree has started to feel monotonous.
To address this, a comprehensive overhaul of Rebirth Island is planned for Season 02, featuring new points of interest, aesthetic improvements, and several upgrades to enhance gameplay flow. The new Haven’s Hollow map, debuting in Season 01, will also contribute to refreshing the Resurgence experience. Feedback from early previews of Haven’s Hollow has already influenced several changes.
Following the launch of Haven’s Hollow, map rotation will be reintroduced in Resurgence, alternating between Rebirth Island and the new map. Additionally, there are plans to revisit previous maps in future seasons, with an enhanced version of Fortune’s Keep currently in development.
Looking ahead, Raven Software promises to implement substantial improvements across various aspects of the game. They plan to increase the regularity of updates and will focus on balance changes at least twice per season.
The approach to weapon and attachment balance is set to change significantly, with defined roles at launch followed by continuous balance adjustments tailored specifically for Warzone. Updates will also encompass shifts in ground loot, perks, equipment, contracts, and further mechanisms throughout the year.
Players can anticipate a seasonal roadmap next month, additional Ranked Play camouflages in Season 2, and the introduction of the new Blackout experience on Avalon during the same season.
