Todd Howard Has No Desire to Be Bethesda’s Stan Lee of Marvel Cameos
The highly anticipated second season of Amazon’s Fallout series is set to premiere in just a few days, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a cameo from Todd Howard, the head of Bethesda.
Cameo appearances have become popular among creators and producers, with figures like Stan Lee famously making brief appearances in Marvel productions. His cameos often delighted audiences, turning into a beloved tradition within the Marvel franchise.
Despite the trend, Howard has expressed that he doesn’t wish to follow in those footsteps for this adaptation. He has received numerous invitations to appear on screen, including offers during the first season. “They’ve suggested many roles for me, even in the first season,” Howard shared, recalling an opportunity to appear in a setting similar to the ‘Dr. Strangelove’ Vault-Tec room where experimental discussions took place.
Nevertheless, Howard feels more suited to a behind-the-scenes role rather than in front of the camera. When prompted about potentially portraying a character, Howard remarked, “I’ve declined all offers so far. I don’t want to divert attention to myself. I want the focus to remain on the show.”
When asked if he could envision himself becoming the Bethesda equivalent of Stan Lee in the future, Howard simply answered, “Not at this time.”
The second season of Fallout is debuting on Amazon Prime this week, specifically on December 16th, which is a day earlier than previously scheduled. The new season will feature returning cast members such as Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins, alongside newcomers Macaulay Culkin and Kumail Nanjiani.
Regarding other adaptations from Bethesda, Howard previously noted that he cannot completely dismiss the idea of an Elder Scrolls project in the future.
