Tomb Raider: Catalyst and its Place in the Series Timeline

The development team behind the upcoming game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, has clarified its position within the series timeline.

Game director Will Kerslake revealed that Catalyst follows the events of Tomb Raider: Underworld, where players witness Lara Croft visiting Helheim and wielding Thor’s legendary hammer, Mjolnir. This new installment will feature Lara on her adventurous journey to Northern India.

“From a timeline perspective, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set years after the occurrences in Tomb Raider: Underworld,” Kerslake shared. He also mentioned that the recent Survivor trilogy, which depicted Lara’s battles against Trinity across various locations such as Siberia and South America, will remain significant as her origin story.

“What we’re seeing is a more seasoned version of Lara Croft,” the developer noted, emphasizing that players won’t need extensive knowledge of previous Tomb Raider titles to enjoy the game.

“It’s crucial to understand that this marks a new chapter in the Tomb Raider series,” he stated. “Whether you’re a long-time fan or experiencing Tomb Raider for the first time, Catalyst is crafted to be a standalone adventure accessible to all players.”
