No, there’s no need to wait until 2030 for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic

Star Wars: The Unveiling of the Old Republic's Destiny by Casey Hudson, Director of Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect

Veteran game developer Casey Hudson, who is leading the development of the much-anticipated title Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, has addressed speculation regarding a delayed release, insisting that players won’t have to wait until 2030 for the game to arrive.

In response to comments from industry insider Jason Schreier about a release timeframe, Hudson swiftly reassured fans on social media, stating, “Don’t worry about the ‘not till 2030’ rumors. The game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger!”

This new single-player RPG was unveiled during The Game Awards, shortly after whispers about a new KOTOR game began circulating. Positioned as a spiritual successor to BioWare’s iconic Knights of the Old Republic, Fate of the Old Republic is being developed by Arcanaut Studios under Hudson’s direction. Hudson, a former director on BioWare’s legendary Star Wars and Mass Effect titles, describes the upcoming game as “an epic interactive adventure across a galaxy on the brink of rebirth, where every decision you make influences your journey toward light or darkness.”

Reflecting on the legacy of the original KOTOR, Hudson commented, “When we created the first KOTOR, our goal was to deliver a quintessential Star Wars experience, crafting an adventure filled with everything we envisioned as passionate fans of the franchise. Now, 25 years later, we have equally ambitious goals for Fate of the Old Republic. This project is a chance to present a modern interpretation of what a definitive Star Wars experience can be, utilizing cutting-edge technology and innovative game design, alongside a completely original story designed to enhance player agency and immersion, just as we aimed to do with KOTOR.”
