Octopath Traveler series exceeds 6 million total sales following the release of Octopath Traveler 0
Square Enix has officially announced that the Octopath Traveller series has reached a remarkable milestone of over 6 million in lifetime sales, shortly following the launch of Octopath Traveller 0.
This achievement was shared on the official Octopath Traveller X account and comes at a time when all titles in the series are being offered at significant discounts. Both Octopath Traveller and Octopath Traveller 2 are currently available at a 60% reduced price.
The Octopath series has turned out to be a significant success for Square Enix. The first game, released in 2018, received critical acclaim and surpassed 1 million sales shortly after its debut. A year later, its arrival on Steam further propelled its popularity.
In 2022, Octopath Traveller: Champions of the Continent was launched in Europe and North America, introducing contentious gacha mechanics. The following year saw the release of Octopath Traveller 2, which resonated well with RPG enthusiasts, building on the foundation of its predecessor and receiving a wave of positive reviews. Additionally, it enjoyed a period of availability on Xbox Game Pass, contributing to its success.
This year, Octopath Traveller 0 has been released, serving as a reimagining of Champions of the Continent but without the intrusive microtransactions. While it has its imperfections, it still offers a satisfying RPG experience. One reviewer noted that the game is an interesting attempt to create a traditional RPG from gacha elements, although it may not fully succeed.
