Yosuke Saito from Square Enix hints at a “small surprise” for Nier and Dragon Quest fans coming in 2026
Nier producer Yosuke Saito has hinted at an upcoming surprise for fans in 2026. In a recent discussion, he suggested that both Nier: Automata and Dragon Quest enthusiasts can look forward to something special, coinciding with the ninth and fortieth anniversaries of the respective franchises in that year.
Saito, however, urged fans to temper their excitement, saying, “please don’t get too excited with anticipation!”
He mentioned, “Next year marks the 40th anniversary of Dragon Quest! I would be genuinely pleased if everyone could take part in a grand celebration.” Regarding Nier: Automata’s ninth anniversary, he added, “We’re also working on ‘just a little something…’ so please keep your expectations in check! Best wishes for the New Year.”
Earlier this year, Saito and director Yoko Taro addressed allegations regarding restrictions on character designs for Western audiences, clarifying that they had never encountered such issues. Taro expressed, “I’ve never heard of anything like that happening.”
