Google has high hopes for its artificial intelligence project. To speed up the process of innovation, the management will merge the Android and Pixel teams.
CEO Sundar Pichai announced a significant internal reorganization on Tuesday. In a memo, he noted that the teams working on Android, Chrome and Chrome OS will be merged with the group responsible for Pixel hardware and Nest devices.
He believes that in order to develop progress, it is necessary to create unique things. Innovations that will be developed at the intersection of hardware, high-quality software, and artificial intelligence. Each of these links can no longer exist separately, because the technologies of the future will be created only by joint efforts. Development teams will unite into one coalition called Platforms & Devices.
Sundar Pichai is confident that this merger will help create high quality products. The newly created team will be headed by Rick Osterloh. Previously, he was the Vice President of Device and Service Distribution. Other projects at Google and Alphabet will be managed by Hiroshi Lockheimer, former head of Android, Chrome, and ChromeOS.
