Snap summed up Q1 results: can it compete with TikTok

Summing up its Q1 2024 earnings report, Snap said that its main competitor TikTok, has seen an increase in total viewing time. Compared to the previous year, users began to spend 125% more time on the social network.

Snapchat also reports that the time spent browsing social media content is growing year on year. This is due to the growing popularity of Spotlight and other short videos. Snap reports that over the past year, they have managed to develop advanced versions of rating models that quickly engage and popularise content.

Summing up the results of Q1 of this year, the company noted that the number of active Snapchat users has increased. The social platform was visited by 422 million users daily, which is 39 million more than in Q1 last year. The number of Snapchat+ subscribers also increased. Their number tripled year-on-year.

At the end of 2020, Snapchat launched a TikTok-like news feed, but it was not popular until recently. On Wednesday, President Joe Biden signed a bill to ban TikTok. The next day, Snap reported that the number of users of the Snapchat channel with short videos increased significantly. It seems that when TikTok is blocked, Snapchat will quickly take its place.
