Electronic Arts increases profit but sees sales decrease in Q4 2024
Electronic Arts (EA), a leading producer and publisher of video games, has presented the financial results of the fourth quarter of the 2024 fiscal year, which ended on March 31. The company recorded a decrease in sales volume but noted an increase in net profit compared to the same period last year.
In Q4 2024, EA’s revenue amounted to $1.78 billion, representing a 5% decrease compared to the same period the previous year. The company’s net profit amounted to $182 million, compared to a loss of $12 million in Q4 2023. Net bookings stood at $1.67 billion, marking a yearly decrease of 14%.
For the full fiscal year 2024, EA demonstrated a slight increase in revenue to $7.56 billion (up 2%) and a significant increase in net profit to $1.27 billion (up 59%). Net sales also increased by 1% to $7.43 billion.
The company announced plans for a $5 billion share buyback over three years, a significant increase compared to the previous three years.
The company’s forecasts for the next fiscal year anticipate a 6% decrease in revenue and a 14-29% decrease in net profit. Net sales may also be affected, ranging from a 2% decrease to a 4% increase.
The first quarter of 2025 is expected to be particularly challenging for EA due to the absence of major releases such as Star Wars: Jedi Survivor and Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth. A decrease in revenue of 13-18%, net profit of 40-51%, and net sales of 21-27% are forecasted.
