Resident Evil Requiem sells over 5 million copies within just a week
As we embrace the budding season of spring, it appears many of us are still craving the chilling thrills of zombie horror.
Today, Capcom announced that their latest release, Resident Evil Requiem, has impressively crossed the milestone of 5 million copies sold within just a week of its launch. In total, the Resident Evil franchise has amassed over 183 million units sold as of December 31st. That’s quite a number of virtual zombies taken down!
Capcom describes Resident Evil Requiem as “successfully enhancing the core of survival horror by intensifying the dynamic between gripping fear and exhilarating action.” Having experienced a significant portion of the game myself, I can wholeheartedly agree with their claim. The transition from the frightened protagonist Grace to the confident Leon, who wields a chainsaw with remarkable skill, provides an exhilarating release.
The success of Resident Evil Requiem has also been attributed to Capcom’s RE Engine, which enables stunning photorealistic visuals—showcasing everything from lifelike skin textures to flowing hair and intricate lighting effects. The inclusion of various difficulty levels and the option to switch seamlessly between first-person and third-person viewpoints has made the game welcoming for both long-time fans and newcomers to the series.
Prior to its release on February 27th, Resident Evil Requiem generated considerable excitement and received accolades at events like Gamescom, amplifying its visibility in the gaming community.
Looking ahead, Capcom emphasizes its dedication to meeting player expectations by leveraging its top-tier game development skills to craft captivating gameplay experiences.
In terms of sales comparisons, it’s noteworthy that Resident Evil 4 Remake achieved 5 million sales in three months, Resident Evil Village in five months, and Resident Evil 3 Remake took two years to reach the same figure.
We recently rated Resident Evil Requiem five stars, with our reviewer praising it as “both a masterful embodiment of suffocating horror and a thrilling homage for long-time fans of the franchise.” Following its launch, the game witnessed the highest concurrent player count ever recorded on Steam for a Resident Evil title.
