For the first time in Diablo’s history, you’ll soon have the opportunity to become the Butcher, along with a free trial for the Paladin
Blizzard is set to introduce a major feature in Diablo 4, allowing players to transform into the notorious Butcher character for the very first time. Additionally, a free trial will be available, enabling anyone to experience the new paladin class, regardless of whether they purchased the upcoming Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred expansion.
The Butcher will be the centerpiece of Season 12, aptly named the Season of Slaughter, launching on March 11th. Players can take on the role of this fearsome figure by activating Shrines of Slaughter during Helltides, participating in the Ceremony of Slaughter in the Fields of Hatred, or venturing into areas called Slaughterhouses.
The Butcher first gained fame in Diablo 1 for his terrifying entrance and relentless aggression, often catching players off guard and defeating them swiftly. He was emblematic of a sudden spike in difficulty that many gamers faced.
A nostalgic nod to the original title, the Butcher made a surprise appearance in Diablo 4, showcasing his infamous speed and ferocity, catching many players by surprise once again.
The free trial for the paladin class will also start on March 11th and run until March 18th. This opportunity is open to all players on Battle.net, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. Not only does it include a trial of the base Diablo 4 game, but it also allows players to level the Paladin up to level 25. Any progress made during the trial can carry over if players decide to pre-purchase the Lord of Hatred expansion afterward.
The Lord of Hatred expansion is scheduled for release on April 28th for Diablo 4, introducing a new warlock class alongside the paladin, as well as a new region to explore and an exciting storyline. It will also increase the level cap by 10 and add new endgame features, including the Horadric Cube, along with Talismans and sets of charms.
Blizzard will also use this update to revamp the game’s skill tree for all players, not just those who purchase the expansion, and will introduce various quality of life improvements, such as loot filters. With so many impactful changes on the horizon, it seems like a transformative moment for Diablo 4.
