Animal Crossing Fans Shift to Pokopia, But One Superfan Creates a Whole Island Themed Around Ditto
A highly anticipated new title has officially launched on the Switch 2 today: Pokémon Pokopia, a delightful spin-off reminiscent of Animal Crossing, developed by Game Freak and Omega Force.
While many players are eager to dive into the world of Pokopia, one creative individual is focused on enhancing their Animal Crossing: New Horizons island with a charming tribute to Ditto and other Pokemon.
This particular island, created by a Reddit user known as owendusk, goes by the name Dittonga—a clever blend of Ditto, the main character from Pokopia, and Tonga, the Polynesian archipelago comprising over 170 islands in the South Pacific.
Below, you can take a look at Dittonga, which frankly makes my own Animal Crossing setup look quite mundane. The rivers and land formations on owendusk’s meticulously designed Ditto-inspired island are truly impressive.

The meticulous details extend beyond just the island’s design. Owendusk has even crafted a backstory for Dittonga, stating:
“Based on intel from Pokopia, Kanto has collapsed into a post-apocalyptic wasteland, taking away Ditto’s trainer and home.
“While Ditto embarks on the huge task of rebuilding an entire region from scratch (the complexity of Pokémon bureaucracy is seriously overlooked), someone had to provide him shelter.
“That someone was me.”

Additionally, owendusk has outfitted their Animal Crossing: New Horizons villager in attire inspired by both the adorable human version of Ditto from Pokopia and the iconic Pokémon counterpart. The character is portrayed with purple skin and styled as minimally as allowed in New Horizons, while the homage to the human Ditto is rather delightful, featuring items like Mom’s Knapsack and a stylish pullover jacket.

Moreover, Dittonga features other residents, such as Joey, who symbolizes Psyduck (“he always appears to be pondering something important”), Puddles as Lickitung (“both are pink and possess extendable tongues—quite unsettling in both regards”), and Freckles as Magikarp (“Freckles shares the same vacant expression, similar red hue, and an absolute passion for fishing”), to highlight just a few.
Owendusk’s attention to detail in crafting their Pokemon-themed Animal Crossing island clearly demonstrates a significant investment of time and creativity, not to mention dedication. (I can’t help but glance at the overgrown weeds and general disarray on my own island…)

In terms of Pokémon Pokopia, it recently received a commendable four-star rating. The game brilliantly captures the essence of Pokémon’s legacy without losing its distinctiveness, marking it as one of the franchise’s finest spin-offs.
