Resident Evil Requiem reaches 6 million copies sold, making it the quickest-selling title in the survival horror franchise’s history
March has proven to be an incredibly active month for significant video game launches, yet conversations around late February’s Resident Evil Requiem continue to thrive. The game has even ascended to the second position on Metacritic’s user score listing. Recently, Capcom has revealed the sales figures for the title, which have surpassed initial expectations.
In a press release dated March 16, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, the President and COO of Capcom, announced that Resident Evil Requiem has achieved considerable success in the gaming community. The title has sold over 6 million units across all platforms, marking the fastest a game in the franchise has reached this important milestone.
For context, the previous two installments, Resident Evil 7 and Village, have sold approximately 16.4 million and 13.5 million units, respectively, since their launches in 2017 and 2021. Therefore, it is impressive to see Requiem reach 6 million sales in less than a month since its release. The recent remakes have also performed well, with RE2 selling 16.8 million units, RE3 at 10.9 million, and RE4 achieving 12.2 million. This trend hints that Capcom will continue to expand the franchise further in the future.
Furthermore, the press release notes that “additional game content” and “ongoing support” are on the way. While there are various hopes from fans regarding upcoming DLC, many are particularly interested in exploring more about Leon’s personal life in recent years.
Another exciting detail from Capcom’s announcement is the upcoming celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary on March 22. The company has promised various plans to celebrate, including a collaboration between Universal Studios Japan and Resident Evil Requiem in 2026, along with orchestral concerts in Japan, the US, and Europe. This implies that there may be more surprises on the horizon, leaving fans eager for announcements about potential remakes.
In a noteworthy comment, Hideki Kamiya, the original director of Resident Evil 2, expressed that he has been struggling to sleep after witnessing how frightening Requiem is—adding an unexpected twist to the conversation surrounding the game.
