President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday a groundbreaking initiative to invest billions in private enterprise for artificial intelligence (AI) development and the construction of new large-scale data centers for OpenAI. The partnership, named Stargate, will unite OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, and UAE-based MGX, with an initial investment of $100 billion and plans to expand to $500 billion over four years, reported by Axios.
The Future of Stargate
According to Trump, Stargate will create over 100,000 jobs in the United States. The first data center project will launch in Texas, with additional facilities planned across other states. Calling the initiative monumental, Trump stated, “This demonstrates unwavering confidence in America’s potential under my leadership.”
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle founder Larry Ellison joined Trump at the White House to announce the venture. According to an Oracle press release, Masayoshi Son will serve as the company’s chairman.

Stargate Partners
Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI are the initial technology partners for Stargate. The announcement came a day after Trump signed an executive order to reverse Biden’s executive order regulating artificial intelligence.
SoftBank pledged $50 billion in investment in December 2016, just before Trump’s first term. Many experts believe that construction of AI data centers has been growing for the past two years in a row, and this decision would likely have been made regardless of who is president.
