Sony has officially released a brand new system software update for the PlayStation 5, bringing the console to version 25.02-11.00.00 with some fresh improvements and changes, GameRant has reported. While most PlayStation 5 users can download the latest update right now, Sony said the patch is rolling out gradually, meaning not all users will get the update available immediately.

Most new PlayStation 5 updates often contain nothing more than “stability improvements,” but the latest patch contains several new improvements. Back in February, Sony announced that it would be releasing a beta version of the new PlayStation 5 update. The update included adjustments to the console’s activity feature, as well as support for Unicode 16.0 emoji and other various quality of life improvements. Now, more than a month later, the same update is getting a full release, and most users can now download and install the latest software version directly on their console.

Firmware on PlayStation Website

According to a new post on the official Ask PlayStation Twitter account, Sony is now rolling out a new update for the PlayStation 5. Version 25.02-11.00.00 is rolling out in stages, but users who haven’t received the update on their console yet can download the firmware directly from the PlayStation website. According to the official patch notes, which can be found further down in this article, the update makes it easier to view details about activities on the console, with activity details now fully displayed in cards. Sony has also made some minor adjustments to parental control restrictions, added support for Unicode 16.0 emoji, improved system performance and stability, and more.

Sony’s Latest Console

Unfortunately, the latest update still hasn’t brought back Sony’s 30th anniversary themes for the PlayStation 5. After introducing the new feature back in December for the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation 1, fans were quick to make it clear that they wanted these classic themes to be available forever. While Sony eventually removed the feature, it promised to bring the themes back in a future update. There’s no word yet on when they’ll return, but the studio has also made it clear that it has no plans to make any other themes besides the 30th anniversary ones.

After more than four years on the market, the PlayStation 5 recently surpassed the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales. According to analyst Matt Piscatella, Sony’s latest console is currently 7% ahead of its predecessor in terms of sales, but the same can’t be said for the Xbox. Industry analysts claim that the Xbox Series X/S is lagging behind the Xbox One by a whopping 19%. Sony has stated that the latest PS5 update is being rolled out in stages, so not all users will be able to download the firmware at this time.
