Skyblivion project leader responds to Oblivion remake announcement with “all love and no hate
While Bethesda has not formally confirmed the eagerly awaited remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, its existence is widely accepted. Alongside the screenshots available on Virtuos’ site, there have also been hints of the project found on Bethesda’s official pages. It appears that the only question remaining is when this remake will be revealed, not if.
In light of this news, what does it mean for the Skyblivion project? This volunteer-based initiative by TESRenewal aims to recreate Oblivion using the Skyrim engine. Has the announcement of an official remake diminished their enthusiasm? (In the style of Wallace and Gromit, one might wonder.)
Not at all! According to Rebelzize, the project lead, the anticipated announcement from Bethesda “changes nothing” for the Skyblivion team. They view their work on the mod as a “passion project” and emphasize that “the real remake is the friends we made along the way.”
Rebelzize sees this situation as a positive for the Oblivion fan community, noting that they will enjoy “twice the Oblivion” this year.

In expressing their feelings, Rebelzize stated: “We harbor no resentment towards those working on the official remaster.” A follow-up post emphasized their hope that fans will enjoy both the official remake and their own project, thanking supporters and encouraging kindness within the community.
Team Folon, the creators behind the Fallout London mod for Fallout 4, also voiced their support for Rebelzize, stating, “We stand with you. All our love to the Skyblivion team.”
Skyblivion is a fan-driven project that has been ongoing for several years, with the team documenting their progress for over a decade. It’s hard to believe how quickly time passes, reflecting on the extensive effort they’ve invested.
A recent blog update revealed a roadmap for Skyblivion, promising that it would “close shut the jaws of Oblivion in 2025.”

Earlier this month, our contributor highlighted the need for Bethesda to prioritize a Morrowind remake over an Oblivion one, describing Morrowind as a unique gem that is hindered by outdated technology and interface design.
Do you think there’s merit to this opinion?
