Tencent discreetly revises "subservient Horizon clone" Light of Motiram's Steam listing

Tencent has recently made significant changes to the Steam page of its upcoming game, Light of Motiram, shortly after Sony initiated a copyright lawsuit against the company.

Last year, Tencent’s development team, Polaris Quest, introduced Light of Motiram, an open-world survival crafting game set in a post-apocalyptic environment. The game features mechanized creatures resembling those found in Guerrilla Games’ Horizon franchise.

In July, Sony took legal action against Tencent, accusing it of creating a “slavish clone” of its Horizon series. The lawsuit alleges Tencent approached Sony for permission to use the intellectual property but proceeded with the game despite being denied.

Although Tencent has not publicly responded to the lawsuit, updates on the game’s SteamDB suggest that alterations have been made to the Light of Motiram page. Numerous screenshots and trailers have been deleted, including the original cover art that featured imagery akin to the character Aloy. This has since been replaced. Additionally, promotional visuals on the Steam storefront have been modified.

The game’s description has also seen changes. The previous version invited players to explore a world filled with enormous machines, build a base, enhance technology, raise Mechanimals, and tackle challenging bosses. It now describes the experience as one where players must expertly navigate dangers to survive and confront formidable adversaries, emphasizing the necessity of courage to thrive in this harsh environment.

Earlier this year, Sony revealed plans for a film adaptation of Guerrilla’s games.
