Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear-inspired Physint is still in the early stages of development as he's currently handling it "all by myself

Hideo Kojima’s new project, Physint, which draws inspiration from the Metal Gear series, is still in the early stages of development. The renowned designer has revealed that he is currently handling much of the work himself at this point in the project’s timeline.

Physint was officially announced for PlayStation in January of the previous year. Kojima Productions characterized it as a “next-generation action espionage game,” with a commitment to serious development anticipated to commence after the release of Death Stranding 2. With that title now available, attention has shifted to what Kojima will be focusing on next.

In a recent discussion with Indiewire, Kojima mentioned that part of his attention remains on Death Stranding 2, where he is analyzing data from players worldwide, including weapon usage and travel routes. This assessment helps him identify areas that need refinement. He expressed that, with ongoing interviews and promotional work, he feels he hasn’t completely wrapped up his efforts on Death Stranding 2.

Looking ahead, Kojima is also involved with a horror project called OD, which was first disclosed in December 2023. He confirmed that he is collaborating with his team on this new endeavor but is simultaneously developing Physint independently since it’s still in the conceptual phase. This early stage of development aligns with statements he made earlier this year, anticipating that it could take him an additional five to six years to finalize Physint.

Physint is particularly significant to Kojima, who has described it as the “culmination of my work.” He aims to erase the boundaries between film and video games. The project emerged during a challenging period of illness and surgery, leading him to rethink his priorities and pursue a project many fans have long requested.

As for Death Stranding 2, it received positive feedback upon its release, with many praising it as a busier and more emotionally engaging version of the original game. With potential future ports and even an anime adaptation on the horizon, the Death Stranding series is far from over.
