Lost Soul Aside developer addresses cutscene problems despite significant day one update
Today marks the release of Lost Soul Aside, but its creators have admitted to encountering problems with certain cutscenes, even after implementing a significant day-one update.
In a recent social media update, the team addressed concerns regarding the performance of some cutscenes. They explained, “Currently, some of these scenes are pre-rendered 4K/30fps videos, which may occasionally cause stuttering during playback. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.”
The developers plan to release future updates aimed at enhancing performance and “providing a smoother gameplay experience.”
Despite the day-one patch, the persistence of these issues is concerning. A few days prior, the studio highlighted the Day One Update Patch, which is intended to offer:
- Thorough performance optimizations and improved stability for a better gameplay experience
- Enhanced visual effects to deepen immersion in the game’s vibrant world
- Audio improvements for a richer sound experience
- Final gameplay refinements for a cohesive adventure
The necessity of this patch delayed the media’s access to the game until its official release. On Steam, the game currently holds a Mixed rating, with numerous users reporting performance-related complaints. One player described the framerate as “wildly inconsistent,” while another mentioned feeling queasy when trying to navigate the game.
If you’re interested in trying it out, a demo is available for both PC and PS5.
For those unfamiliar with Lost Soul Aside, it’s been ten years since developer Yang Bing began crafting this project, inspired by titles like Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy XV. Over the years, he has grown his studio and secured funding through PlayStation’s China Hero Project, leading to the long-awaited release of the full game.
This game is part of a growing wave of action RPGs from Chinese developers, especially following the success of Black Myth: Wukong.
