Moonlighter 2 postponed to November because of a packed October release calendar

The early access launch of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault has been postponed by a month, now scheduled for November 19, due to the high volume of game releases in October.

Initially, the game’s developers, Digital Sun, along with publisher 11 Bit Studios, had targeted an October 23 release. However, they decided to delay the launch to avoid competing with numerous other exciting titles coming out that month. In a statement, they noted, “October has filled up with so many other fantastic releases that we feel it has become too crowded for us. As any savvy shopkeeper would know, even the rarest gem can be overlooked in an overcrowded showcase.”

Meanwhile, closed playtests are set to commence soon on platforms like Steam and the Microsoft Store, with additional information to be released shortly.

Indeed, the October release calendar is quite packed. Notably, on the 23rd, titles such as Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, Once Upon a Katamari, and Double Dragon Revive are all slated for launch.

Moreover, the month features a lineup of major game releases, including:

  • Ghost of Yotei – October 2
  • Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 – October 2
  • Digimon Story: Time Stranger – October 3
  • Battlefield 6 – October 10
  • Little Nightmares 3 – October 10
  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A – October 16
  • Jurassic World Evolution 3 – October 21
  • Ninja Gaiden 4 – October 21
  • Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 – October 21
  • The Outer Worlds 2 – October 29
  • Arc Raiders – October 30
  • Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake – October 30

Despite the shift, Moonlighter 2 will now face competition from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on November 14. While avoiding direct competition is a strategic move, finding an ideal release date has become increasingly challenging in today’s saturated market.

The surprise launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong has prompted several games to alter their release schedules, raising concerns about its potential impact on sales, as expressed by various industry figures.

Announced back in August, the early access version of Moonlighter 2 is a sequel to the 2018 original and marks a transition from top-down gameplay to immersive 3D environments.
