Another Final Fantasy 11 Server Shuts Down for New Players Due to Overpopulation

Square Enix has decided to restrict access to another Final Fantasy 11 server for new players due to overwhelming popularity. In July, the well-frequented Asura server was closed to new entries, as producer and director Yoji Fujito noted that the server’s overcrowding had caused various problems that negatively impacted the gaming experience.

With new players now gravitating toward the heavily populated Bahamut server, it has also reached its capacity limit. Fujito stated that Bahamut has been experiencing the second-highest number of concurrent users among all servers, making it a common starting point for new players.

While it’s great to witness such vibrant activity on these servers, too many concurrent users can burden the server’s processes, which leads to slower responsiveness and potential technical issues.

As of October 9, the option for players to transfer characters to Bahamut will be halted, and the creation of new characters will also be disabled. Additionally, the Vana’diel Adventurer Recruitment Programme for this server will be temporarily suspended.

Fujito further mentioned that Asura remains off-limits for new players as server activity has not seen a significant change, despite a minor decrease in user numbers.

This development comes 23 years after the MMORPG’s initial release. The surge in player numbers can be attributed to earlier discount promotions this year, as well as a crossover event with Final Fantasy 14, which has experienced a drop in players following its less successful Dawntrail expansion.

In the meantime, Final Fantasy 14 is set to feature an exciting collaboration with Monster Hunter Wilds, which will introduce new mounts and a fresh battle scenario.
