Grounded 2 Launches Successfully on Steam, Exceeding Player Peak of Original Game

Game developers utilizing Unity have been advised to promptly update their titles due to the identification of a security flaw in Unity versions 2017.1 and beyond.

In their announcement, Unity confirmed that a “security vulnerability has been detected that affects applications developed on Unity versions 2017.1 and later for Android, Windows, Linux, and macOS.” However, they emphasized that “there is currently no evidence of any exploitation of this vulnerability, nor has there been any effect on users or clients.”

“We have proactively provided fixes for the vulnerability, which are now accessible to all developers,” Unity stated. The vulnerability was reported responsibly by security researcher RyotaK, and the company expressed gratitude for his collaboration.

Following the announcement, Unity informed developers who released games between 2017 and the present that they must recompile and republish their titles due to this security issue. As a result, some developers began to temporarily remove their games from digital storefronts to implement the necessary patches quickly, including Obsidian, which took down several titles while they worked on updates.

The company has released updates for all major and minor versions of the Unity Editor, starting with version 2019.1, along with a binary patcher for applications built since 2017.1. They also cautioned developers to meticulously follow their guidance to ensure user safety.

Unity reiterated its commitment to the security and integrity of its platform, customers, and the broader community. They emphasized that transparent communication is a key aspect of this commitment and assured that further updates will be provided as needed.
