Kingmakers postponed indefinitely as developer requires "additional time before we are comfortable monetizing it

The release of Kingmakers, a unique shooter and strategy game set to combine time-traveling elements with medieval combat, has been postponed indefinitely. The developers at Redemption Road revealed that the decision was made to avoid sacrificing any planned features in order to expedite the launch. They expressed regret for disappointing fans who have been looking forward to the game.

In a statement shared on social media, the studio announced, “After careful consideration, we have concluded that our planned launch date of October 8 is no longer feasible. We sincerely apologize to all the supporters of the game. We’re sorry to have let you down.” They further elaborated on the delay, explaining that Kingmakers is an exceptionally ambitious project and their intention is to avoid cutting any content just to meet an earlier deadline.

They emphasized their commitment to delivering a game that stands apart from current offerings in terms of gameplay, scale, scope, and interactivity. The statement highlighted the extensive capabilities of their game, pushing the Unreal Engine 4 to its limits while ensuring a smooth gameplay experience at 60 frames per second for mid-range PCs without relying on artificial enhancements.

The development team, predominantly made up of engineers, are passionate about advancing technological boundaries. They noted that Kingmakers features large-scale battles with tens of thousands of AI-driven soldiers, each exhibiting sophisticated pathfinding, similar to what is expected in AAA titles. Players will also have the opportunity to explore every room within expansive six-story castles.

According to the statement, “Each mission occurs within a vast map that players can freely explore, with or without their personal army of thousands.” They are also implementing comprehensive multiplayer support for up to four players, and they believe that a bit more time is necessary for content refinement before the game is ready for purchase.

The developers concluded their announcement with an exciting promise of a forthcoming half-hour gameplay deep dive, which will provide an extensive look at what they have been working on for Kingmakers.

While Kingmakers remains unreleased, it has already garnered attention for securing a film adaptation. The studio expressed their excitement about the game transitioning to the big screen in collaboration with tinyBuild and Story Kitchen.
