Halo co-creator expresses disappointment over his former studio’s exclusion from Battlefield 6 credits despite its foundational role in the game’s development

Battlefield 6 will not feature crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox without including PC players

Marcus Lehto, a co-creator of the Halo franchise, has expressed his disappointment over the fact that his former studio, Ridgeline Games, did not receive credit in Battlefield 6, despite their foundational work on the project.

Ridgeline Games, which focused on developing the single-player campaign for Battlefield 6, was led by Lehto until his departure in February 2024, shortly before the studio was shut down. At the time, he voiced his dismay, stating, “It was heartbreaking to see EA lay off my team,” highlighting the talent of the developers who contributed significantly to the Battlefield series.

Now that Battlefield 6 has launched, Lehto has taken to LinkedIn to address the lack of acknowledgment for his former colleagues. “I feel disappointed that many of my teammates from Ridgeline Games were not appropriately credited in the latest release of Battlefield 6,” he stated.

He elaborated on his post, emphasizing that these skilled developers dedicated anywhere from one to two and a half years to laying the game’s groundwork before the studio was closed after his exit. “Despite their remarkable contributions, most who were let go found themselves relegated to a ‘Special Thanks’ section at the end of the credits, with some, including myself, omitted entirely,” he noted.

Lehto included an image in his post that showcased how he would have preferred his colleagues to be credited. He concluded with a strong message: “Game development is a collaborative endeavor, and every contributor deserves to be recognized fairly.”

In the wake of Battlefield 6’s release, the game has been subject to numerous updates. Notably, EA reversed a decision on changes to the multiplayer Conquest mode following player backlash. After leaving Ridgeline, Lehto, who has an extensive background with Bungie on the Halo series, commented that he had “nothing positive to say about EA,” particularly citing the issue of widespread layoffs in the industry.
