Steam introduces an exciting new feature to enhance game discovery and tracking
Valve has introduced a new feature on Steam aimed at enhancing game discoverability, and early impressions suggest it is proving to be quite beneficial.
This feature, known as the Steam Personal Calendar, provides users with a calendar view showcasing upcoming games that align with their interests. The selection of games is personalized based on the titles you’ve played frequently, making the recommendations more tailored.
At the top of the Personal Calendar, you’ll find highlighted games that have been released within the past month and in the last week. Below this, users can see upcoming games displayed in a calendar format, reminiscent of marking dates on a calendar you might hang at home. This visual representation makes it easier to track and anticipate new releases.
The layout is particularly user-friendly, offering quick access to information about upcoming titles. You can easily hover over game images to view videos or trailers if you’re not familiar with a specific title. Additionally, there are filter options available for those who prefer to customize their experience.
A noteworthy aspect of the recommendation engine behind this feature is its focus. It prioritizes games that you play the most in relation to other users, meaning that short sessions with demos or new games won’t significantly alter your suggestions. However, if you invest substantial time in a new favorite, that will influence future recommendations. Valve noted that this system is updated daily with the latest data, ensuring that while day-to-day changes may be minimal, your recommendations will evolve over time as more games are released or as release dates are confirmed.
It’s important to mention that the Personal Calendar is still considered an experimental feature within Steam Labs, which means it may undergo changes as Valve continues to refine the platform.
This rollout follows a recent redesign of the Steam interface that simplified navigation by relocating the cluttered menu from the side of the Store to a more streamlined drop-down menu at the top. This update not only enhances the visual appeal but also ensures that navigation remains consistent across various pages on the platform.
