Pikmin 4 receives a free update introducing Photo Mode, but lacks a Switch 2 upgrade
Nintendo has revealed that a free update for Pikmin 4 will be arriving next month, though it will not include any enhancements for a potential Switch 2 console.
This upcoming update will introduce a Photo Mode that utilizes a new field camera item, allowing players to modify angles and add various decorations to their images. Additionally, the update will bring in a new type of Pikmin called Decor Pikmin. These colorful Pikmin, first seen in the mobile title Pikmin Bloom, can be found scattered throughout levels and can be added to your squad. They can also be transferred to the mobile game.
Furthermore, the new update will feature additional Creature Activity levels. The Relaxed mode will prevent enemies from attacking unless provoked, offering a more leisurely experience, while the Fierce mode will see enemies behaving in a more aggressive manner.
While a specific release date has not been announced, the update is set to launch in November, alongside a new demo for players to experience.
This news follows the release of an intriguing animated short titled “Close to You,” which depicted a baby interacting (and being humorously startled) by unseen creatures, which fans quickly identified as Pikmin. A revised version of the short featuring the plant creatures was made available the following day.
Given this recent activity, some Pikmin-related news seemed imminent. However, many fans were anticipating an upgraded edition of Pikmin 4 for the Switch 2, a trend seen with other Nintendo titles such as the two recent Zelda games, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Super Mario Party Jamboree. An expanded version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder is also planned for next year.
Nonetheless, Pikmin 4 will not be receiving any specific upgrade for the Switch 2, even though it is playable on the new console. Regardless, it continues to be an exceptional game for the system, with our review praising it as a revitalization of the Pikmin series, blending new gameplay experiences with the series’ classic elements.
