No Man’s Sky introduces space wreck salvaging and enhanced shipbuilding as a busy year progresses
No Man’s Sky has had a remarkable year, and developer Hello Games is keeping the momentum going. Today marks the launch of the new Breach update, which introduces space wreck salvaging and a host of new features to this exploration-driven space simulator.
The Breach update expands on the space-walking mechanics that were introduced in the significant Voyagers update from August. Players can now explore enormous drifting wrecks in the cosmos to collect valuable salvage. This salvage can be used to unlock an extensive selection of new shipbuilding components, including vertical structures and rare, luminescent Atlas-themed parts, alongside enhanced ship customization options.
Additionally, Breach kicks off a new limited-time Expedition, offering various fresh cosmetic rewards. Players will venture into a deserted universe filled with rare solar systems with purple stars, all while searching for an enigmatic wreck. Prepare to encounter gas giants, ocean worlds, and an eerie story that fits the season. Complete patch notes can be found on the Hello Games website.
This update follows an action-packed year for No Man’s Sky, which has seen significant enhancements such as the introduction of purple star systems, palaeontology features, a major release for Switch 2, and customizable Corvette ships. The latter update has significantly boosted the game’s player count on Steam, reaching its highest numbers since the game’s initial launch.
“It’s been an incredible year for the No Man’s Sky team, and we’re thrilled to continue developing this beloved game nearly nine years after its debut,” said Sean Murray, the head of Hello Games, during the Breach announcement. “The enthusiasm surrounding the Voyagers update has truly motivated us, and we are excited to reveal more of what we have planned for the future.”
