Halo, previously exclusive to Microsoft, is making its debut on PS5: “This is Halo for everyone
The Halo franchise is set to make its debut on PlayStation 5.
During the recent Halo World Championship, Microsoft showcased Halo: Campaign Evolved, a project that has been described as “a faithful yet modern remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign.” This new version will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in the coming year.
This remake has been constructed from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, featuring enhanced graphics, updated controls, two-player split-screen co-op for consoles, and the capability for up to four players to join in online co-op on both console and PC. It will also introduce three new missions, an expanded selection of weapons and vehicles, fresh enemies, and more content. Players will have access to it on day one via Game Pass.
For those unfamiliar with this iconic shooter, the tale begins when the Master Chief crash-lands on the enigmatic ringworld named Halo. He teams up with the remaining human forces to combat the formidable Covenant forces. Together with his AI partner Cortana, he reveals the dark truths of Halo and battles to prevent the extinction of all life in the galaxy.
“We aimed to start with the very beginning, revisiting the original campaign that established Halo,” executive producer Damon Conn explained. “This approach allows newcomers to understand the story from its roots, which will help us pave the way for future Halo narratives.”
“By concentrating on the campaign experience, we can fully focus on capturing the essence and emotional weight that made the original campaign so memorable and iconic,” he added.
In Halo: Campaign Evolved, players will have access to nine new “iconic” weapons from across the Halo series within the Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. These include the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle, allowing for vehicle hijacking and piloting the Covenant Wraith tank for the first time in a Halo campaign.
But that’s not all the updates.
“Our experience with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary showed us that there remains a demand for improved navigation and variety in enemy encounters,” said director Max Szlagor. “In The Library, specifically, which includes several encounters with the Flood, we wanted to rethink the pacing and enhance environmental storytelling. We’ve integrated new lines for Guilty Spark to assist players through the level, as well as fresh dialogue that enriches the narrative experience.”
“We are incredibly excited to introduce Halo to those who may not have had the opportunity to experience it before,” Conn remarked. “At its core, Halo embodies connection, and we’re eager to welcome a new generation of players on their preferred platforms to fall in love with Halo just as we did. We’re not attempting to alter Halo’s legacy—our goal is to immerse you in it like never before.
“This is Halo for everyone.”
