Wow! The creators of the impressive Sonic Prime are developing an animated series based on Crash Bandicoot

Get ready to protect your wumpa fruit and reinforce those wooden crates: Crash Bandicoot is making a comeback with a new animated series set to launch on Netflix.

WildBrain Studios, known for their work on the popular Sonic Prime, is leading the charge in adapting Crash Bandicoot for the streaming platform. If you’re not familiar with Sonic Prime, it’s well worth exploring for its engaging take on the beloved Sega character. WildBrain has also contributed to several other projects, including Carmen Sandiego, Malory Towers, Camp Snoopy, and a reboot of Caillou.

Interestingly, Crash has never had his own animated series before, making this an exciting debut for the iconic Sony character. With WildBrain’s track record, there’s good reason to believe they can deliver an entertaining show.

Let’s hope this new endeavor avoids the pitfalls faced by prior attempts to bring Crash to television. There were rumors of a collaboration between Activision and Amazon for an animated series in 2021, which was reportedly scrapped due to disagreements over the script. Although details about that project remain scarce, a visually impressive animation test surfaced on YouTube about four years ago.

Crash Bandicoot has previously ventured beyond video games, including a Japan-exclusive manga titled Crash Bandicoot—Dansu! de Jump! na Daibōken, which followed the storyline of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. Additionally, he featured in a series of web shorts in 2007 that promoted Crash of the Titans.

As for the gaming realm, the future of Crash appears somewhat uncertain. Recent titles like the N. Sane Trilogy, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, Crash 4: It’s About Time, and Crash Team Rumble were developed by Toys for Bob, who announced their independence from Activision as of February 2024. They mentioned exploring a potential partnership with Microsoft, indicating a supportive environment from both Microsoft and Activision during this transition. While it’s unclear what Toys for Bob’s next project entails, there’s speculation about a new Crash game being in the works.

However, a report from 2024 indicated that plans for Crash Bandicoot 5 were abandoned in favor of live-service gaming experiences, with the canceled title meant to directly follow It’s About Time.
