GSC Game World has hit a new milestone on its long road of expanding the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has officially launched on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The release went live on November 20 — precisely a year after the game first appeared on PC and the Xbox family of consoles.
A big factor behind this accelerated rollout was the company’s change in ownership. When Ukrainian investor Maksym Krippa took over the studio, he initiated a large-scale modernization effort. His backing enabled GSC to boost internal capacity, invest in new technology, and strengthen its development teams. Production processes were reorganized, new specialists joined, outdated systems were replaced, and the pipeline became far more efficient. As a result, the studio managed to push the PlayStation versions through final testing and polishing faster than initially expected.
Once the final builds passed certification, GSC confirmed across all official platforms that the PlayStation 5 editions were locked in and prepared for release.
Krippa’s involvement did not stop at speeding up development — his investment also provided the technical base needed to adapt the game for Sony hardware. In parallel, the studio has been actively working on two substantial DLC expansions, along with broader updates that introduce additional mechanics, stories, and world-building elements to the Zone.
For Ukrainian players, the PlayStation editions are priced as follows: the Standard version costs 1,799 UAH, the Deluxe edition costs 2,199 UAH, and the Ultimate package — which includes extra digital rewards such as an artbook and exclusive in-game bonuses — costs 2,799 UAH. To celebrate the launch, GSC also released a new trailer created specifically for the PlayStation audience.
A notable component of the PlayStation release was full support for DualSense features. The PS5 version has been tailored to:
– deliver precise haptic responses
– integrate adaptive trigger resistance
– enhance vibration feedback to mirror shifting conditions in the Zone, weapon handling, anomalies, firefights, and atmospheric changes
Right before the launch, the studio deployed Patch 1.7 — one of the most substantial updates since the initial release. The signature A-Life simulation system received a sweeping overhaul: mutant groups and human factions now engage in more dynamic clashes, capturing and losing territories based on player actions and systemic world events. A new “Master” difficulty pushes players into a near-permadeath environment with almost no autosaves. At the same time, the “Expedition” mode allows these hardcore parameters to be applied to any chosen difficulty level.
The patch also improved NPC intelligence, adjusted the stamina and sprint system, introduced two new anomaly types, and expanded the inventory UI to give players deeper insights into armor values, artifact effects, and radiation exposure. Engine-level tweaks refined overall performance, trimming down stutters when exploring open environments. GSC published a separate breakdown covering all the technical and gameplay changes for those who want a detailed overview.
To accompany the global rollout, the studio also shared a message for players — the accompanying video was released across their official channels.
