In a comment to Deadline, showrunner Craig Mazin noted that the narrative will continue for some time, as the creators took an unexpected path. He also hinted at a potential fourth season, saying that they definitely do not fit into two seasons. The third season will be much longer and may need another one.
The second season of the series will continue the storyline of The Last of Us Part 2. It will tell the story of the adult Ellie (Bella Ramsay). The cast of the sequel will include Caitlin Deaver as Abby, as well as Isabella Merced and Young Masino. The latter will play Dina and Jesse.
The series will also be developed by a new team of directors led by Michael Milod. He is best known for his work on The Descendants and Game of Thrones. The second season of The Last of Us is currently being filmed in Canada. The premiere is expected to take place next year.
