Gulliver’s Travels to Get a Modern TV Remake

Jonathan Swift‘s classic satirical adventure, Gulliver’s Travels, is being reimagined for the small screen in a modern television adaptation. Emmy and BAFTA-winning screenwriter Tom Bidwell (Watership Down) has written and created a new six-part series titled The Gullivers. Bidwell collaborates with producers Xavier Marchand and Casey Herbert from Moonriver TV and Leo Becker from Federation Studios, reported by Variety.

Tom Bidwell on Bringing Gulliver to Life

According to the producers, the fantasy adventure series is being developed with a major European broadcaster. It builds on Moonriver’s previous success, Nautilus, now available on Amazon Prime and inspired by Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

Bidwell’s fresh take on the story presents Gulliver through the eyes of his 21st-century wife and children as they embark on a rescue mission. “Few works have influenced storytelling and culture like Swift’s masterpiece,” Bidwell said, describing the novel as a work of extraordinary imagination he has wanted to adapt for years but hesitated to tackle.

Moonriver founder Marchand added that Tom Bidwell’s Gulliver’s promises to be a thrilling, action-packed film that will captivate the world and audiences across generations.

Swift’s timeless story, with its iconic imagery, has always appealed to audiences, and this fresh, modern take will present it to audiences in a way that feels more relevant. It’s a classic that invites viewers back to its imaginative world, now with a new and exciting perspective.
