Xbox Game Pass members can start playing Far Cry New Dawn as part of their subscriptions starting today. It’s the first game to hit Microsoft’s subscription service in February 2025, and the 14th new addition to Xbox Game Pass since the start of the year. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Far Cry New Dawn is a spin-off of Far Cry 5, which debuted on PC and consoles in February 2019, reported by GameRant.

The open-world shooter has been well-received by critics, as evidenced by its “Fair” rating on OpenCritic, which comes from an average score of 73 and a 54% recommendation from reviewers. Its user reviews are similar, with the game boasting “Mostly Positive” player impressions on Steam and a 3.5-star rating on the Xbox Store. Critics praised Far Cry New Dawn for its post-apocalyptic setting and exploration, while also criticizing the underdeveloped characters and RPG mechanics that some felt forced.

Xbox Game Pass Offers 3 Far Cry Games

11 days before its sixth anniversary, Far Cry New Dawn has hit Microsoft’s subscription service, debuting as the first Xbox Game Pass addition in February 2025. The 2019 shooter is now available on all tiers of the service except XGP Core. Achievement hunters can unlock up to 50 Far Cry New Dawn trophies worth a total of 1,000 Gamerscore points.

In addition to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the Far Cry spin-off is also playable via Xbox Cloud Gaming, an exclusive perk for XGP Ultimate. With this arrival, Microsoft’s subscription service is now offering three installments in Ubisoft’s long-running series. In addition to New Dawn, the Xbox Game Pass library currently also includes Far Cry 5 and Far Cry, which were added in July 2022 and December 2023, respectively.

Avowed by Obsidian Entertainment

Microsoft’s subscription service only has one other confirmed game for this month – the fantasy RPG Avowed by Obsidian Entertainment, which is set to release on February 18. Unlike Far Cry New Dawn, Avowed won’t be available on the standard Xbox Game Pass tier immediately, as it’s a new game release.

Far Cry New Dawn officially kicks off the first wave of additions to Xbox Game Pass in February 2025. The rest of this month’s Wave 1 lineup is expected to be announced soon, most likely today, February 4, given Microsoft’s long-standing preference to reveal new XGP release lineups every other Tuesday. In addition to the new content, Xbox Game Pass is also set to lose seven games on February 15, including A Little to the Left and Tales of Arise.
