Grand Theft Auto 5 has reached another incredible sales milestone. GTA 5 isn’t the only winner, as Red Dead Redemption 2 also saw a boost in sales in the final months of 2024. However, while most Grand Theft Auto fans are desperate to see and hear more about GTA 6, the current game is still a huge success. In addition to the highly acclaimed single-player story mode, some of the draw is also likely due to GTA Online, which many players still regularly use, reported by GameRant.

Take-Two Interactive Announces

Now, in an announcement from Take-Two Interactive, it has been revealed that GTA 5 has reached a whopping 210 million copies sold in its entire existence. While that number far surpasses some of the best-selling video games of all time, the game is still showing notable growth at this late stage in its existence.

According to Take-Two, Grand Theft Auto 5 sold 5 million copies in the last three months of the year – an average of over 1.5 million copies per month. It would be a feat for many games to sell that many copies in their entire existence, let alone in such a short period of time and such a long post-launch success.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is enjoying similar success

While many fans were disappointed by the lack of attention Red Dead Redemption 2 received upon launch, that doesn’t seem to have stopped players from trying it out. While Red Dead Redemption 2’s sales aren’t as impressive as those of GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 has now reached an impressive 70 million copies sold. Like GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 performed quite well in 2024, selling an additional three million copies per quarter. Red Dead Redemption 2 is six years old, and its online component is no longer receiving any major content updates.

While it remains to be seen whether Grand Theft Auto 6 will be able to live up to the hype that the series has generated, it seems likely that it will set new sales records for Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive. Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently expected to launch in the fall of 2025. That leaves GTA 5 plenty of time to rack up even more sales. While GTA 5 will likely see at least some sales decline after that point, Red Dead Redemption 2 has a good chance of continuing to be a strong seller for years to come.
