Critical Role has officially announced that Daggerheart will be released on May 20th. Gamers looking for a Dungeons and Dragons alternative won’t have long to wait for Critical Role’s new Daggerheart system. In 2023, the multimedia group revealed that it was working on Daggerheart, a new d12-based fantasy tabletop role-playing system that uses a unique card-based progression system and Hope and Fear mechanics, reported by GameRant.
System Testing on Critical Role Channel
Over the next two years, the system was tested extensively, including by the community at conventions like GenCon, as well as in one-off games on the Critical Role Channel. Now, Daggerheart is almost ready to ship to waiting fans. Critical Role recently announced that Daggerheart will officially launch on May 20th, where it will be available for pre-order on the game’s website, at Darrington Press Guild stores, and many local gaming retailers, with digital versions available through DriveThruRPG and Demiplane. Players will be able to find Daggerheart at other TTRPG retailers, such as Dungeons and Dragons, starting June 3rd.
Daggerheart is available for pre-order now at many of these locations. The $60 Daggerheart base set includes a 300-page hardcover rulebook and 279 character customization cards, as well as a rules PDF, while the $150 limited edition also comes with an alternate cover art, GM screen, dice set, tokens, and more. Fans who only want the digital version of the rules can get it for $35 through Demiplane or $45 through Nexus and DriveThruRPG in a set that includes printable and playable versions of the game cards.

Exandria Unlimited: Divergence
The May 20th release date for Daggerheart is more notable than players might have initially thought. May 12th marks the 10th anniversary of Critical Role, so it’s a fitting time for the actual game to release its own system. What’s more, Critical Role also just wrapped up Campaign 3, so many fans are wondering if the streaming service will be moving over to Daggerheart for the next game.
Either way, players won’t have long to wait to find out. Starting February 13th, Critical Role is launching a four-week miniseries called Exandria Unlimited: Divergence, followed by a talk show called Exandria Wrap-Up on March 13th, shortly before Daggerheart officially launches. Fans can expect to hear everything the voice actors have planned for the future, including a Critical Role video game, shortly after that, if not during Exandria Wrap-up itself.
